Glitch or Something...?

Hi. Um... Recently, while playing Minecraft on your server, I haven't been able to craft any tools and some other stuff. Today, I tried to craft a flint and steel to make a portal and iron tools. When I crafted them, the item didn't appear in the result box. I don't know what's going on but this has been going on for at least a week now. If any of you know what the problem is, please reply as quick as you can. I need resources!

P.S. Ant, I force updated Minecraft, it led me to Beta 1.8. Now, I can't join the server!

he dosent have to make a new map, 1.8 works just fine with maps made with 1.7.3
