What operating system do the servers run on? Looking to run some small shit on a 2 core Athlon thing I might be getting for free. Can't handle much so I'm after something efficient. Bonus if it's Windows so I can understand it.

Windows XP or use some sort of Linux OS. Ubuntu or Mint (can't think of any other names at the moment)

+1 for smacky-poo. Although he might have choosen ant's answer over yours becauses 1. Ant is server owner and 2. Ant is nicer. But TBH, Linux is amazing OS, and I believe CentOS is another server OS

Linux is awesome for server hosting, but i'm 99 % sure that Ant wont install Linux or other Operativesystems for the servers. If anyone know Dommee, he told ant that linux is the best and he wanted Ant to use it or something, i remember Ant's answear, "Never!".

I dont think GABEN and linux work well together...but since i dont host my own HL2DM servers, i won't know

I have messed around with SRCDS and centOS on my laptop. It works fine, but i didnt want to take the time to learn all the "extra" stuff needed for my servers. Such as MySQL, FTP, Webserver stuff on linux. Getting SRCDS to run alone is easy enough though. So there was no sense in re-building everything if it all runs fine on windows.

Yup. although you shouldn't be need to learn new commands. Since the game server connects to FTP/MySQL the same way, the only trouble would be setting up an FTP and MySQL on linux.

Ugh windows 7 is defiantly not for hosting servers because there is always problems with drivers when converting something from xp to 7 and other specific reasons.

yah that happened to me too, but i think it was just the video card since it worked fine when it was replaced
