against bots
@ant & nick
http://sapphiremands.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=565
the content of the spoiler simply fits into a file called .htaccess wich can be put into the root of your server.
voila.. lots of root server ip ranges banned.
there is not such thing like a perfect ban table. at least i've tryed creating one on my own :/
oh and please tell me ip's of active spambots within this forum so i could add their ranges to that list.

Re: against bots
For now ive been banning in the phpbb3 ip ban area. Similar to the htaccess file, but just for this /forums space. But now im probably gonna just add it to the htaccess file since it would take too long to convert all ur IPs to ranges/wildcard format (which is how phpbb3 wants it).
Heres whats in there so far:
Deny from 46.17.96.0/21
Deny from 46.109.0.0/16
Deny from 84.19.0.0/16

Re: against bots
*added your list to mine
sure. could have banned em through phpbb but in my opinion using htaccess is more efficient.
if you want to i can write a simple converter from Deny from CIDR to phpbb ban ranges / wildcards
i wanna add a cidr to range converter to this, so it would be not much work
edit:
new one. just right now registred on sapph:
NetRange: 199.15.232.0 - 199.15.239.255
CIDR: 199.15.232.0/21
edit:
ant you should enable recaptcha within this forum.

new one:
NetRange: 207.204.224.0 - 207.204.255.255

Re: against bots
hm nico told me he cannot view this forum anymore.
his current ip is 109.193.136.154 wich does not match to my htaccess content :/
anyways.. do you think its a good idea to block isp's?
cause thats what you did with 178.0.0.0/8 (Arcor Germany) xD

Re: against bots
please remove 178.0.0.0/8
behind it is an isp for mobile internet in britain
edit: and ban this: 93.126.64.0/18
edit: one of my friends from poland fits into this range:
62.87.128.0/17
so please remove it too if you have it added already.

Re: against bots
i made the unban request forum "by approval only" since there was so many ads. Also there seems to be a TON from 109.0.0.0/8 but some ppl from my group are in that range.

Re: against bots
62.122.208.0/21
78.8.4.0/24
208.43.0.0/16
wuyah. some new.
if it is an isp i ban it only if it comes from the ukraine, china or russia.
edit: i should also note that banning /8 results often in banning multiple country ranges.
edit:
a new russian range: 93.80.0.0/16
78.8.4.0/24
208.43.0.0/16

i check every range by hand to figure out if its hosted somewhere or if it is an isp.but some ppl from my group are in that range.

Re: against bots
yo ant and nick and all other forum admins wich may know what this is about
i've hereby removed all ip range bans from sapph since i was sick about unbanning ppl cause they fit into some of theese ranges.
finaly i came to the decision to do this:
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/custom- ... mmer-tool/
i also changed some things within the forum:
http://sapphiremands.com/forum/viewtopi ... t=10#p4528
guests and newly registred ppl now need to get their posts activated.
newly registred ppl need to get a post limit of 5 activated posts before they turn into usual members automated.
well with theese simple changes sapph's forum did not got ANY new registred spammer since around 26 hours now. this is an achievement. we had around 200 a week before.
i would suggest doing the same here since it works

Re: against bots
Yep this seems to have worked. No spam accounts created so far. Thanks Gottz.
