Scripting will fail once again?

Post by po0ka »

Futhem and their new engine craps.
That will probably be a new dark era....

I'm too lazy to resume the article in depth, but;
Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, and Team Fortress 2 will soon traverse over to the steamapps/common section of your Steam folder instead of the older steamapps/[username] destination. The conversion is automatic: Valve says you’ll need enough disk space “for about two full copies of the game” as it changes over.

Keep in mind that what i say is not static, it is dynamic.
Years, months, weeks, and days after i say something, i can say the opposite.

My biggest fear for scripting was that they would one day update the game to portal 2's engine. But this...

I'm sure it will be this:
Loads the game.
Export files to the common/ directory.
Lock the exportation.
Create or modify a cfg.
Exec it.
fails, no file exists or outdated.

That. is what i fear the most.

I downloaded tf2 beta to check out the SteamPipe format and I don't think it will change much. The location of custom downloaded files will be hl2mp/download and there will be some downtime while we redownload the whole server.

Sourcemod & Metamod have already made changes to how their addons load so that it will be ready when the update rolls out.

Other than that, the game itself shouldnt change, just the location/storage of the files will.

Hm, will this have any affect on the steamapps/sourcemods folders?

No, this is only for original games. All orangebox games will be moved to steamapps/common instead of having mutiple account folders, each with the same game folders inside.
