Let's discuss.

I feel this is certainly a positive, and I'd be interested in buying one myself (for a reasonable price). It's a move towards digital, adding the ability to buy your games online, and download them from the internet rather than travelling into town, or ordering a physical copy.
Valve are also very flexible with pricing, and often change their prices on Steam, whereas high strret retailers hardly change their prices, trying to squeeze every penny from their customers.

Ontopic: Its a pretty interesting idea. Not sure if its able to beat PS3 and XBOX tho.

Anyways,

I've always had a weird relationship with consoles. Personally I prefer the PC, it allows much more freedom, and mouse + keyboard controls > controller. Plus a computer can handle more, with the right setup, allowing the user the possibility to experience more... [insert PC vs Xbox/PS3 rant here]. I enjoy consoles though, and they're much more portable, and can allow more than one user to play without having multiple setups.
I'd prefer Steam for the PC only, as a console will split efforts to improve both. As well as "console-exclusive" content. Marketing scams...
