Server Atmospherical Shift

Area 51 Deathrun Server is hands down the best server on HL2:DM. The large variety of maps, constant flow of players, and excellent scripting combine for a very enjoyable online experience with others.

While I only have aroun 170 hours on the server, I've been playing the server for over a year now. (I have a job and take college classes online so I don't have as much time as others for games).

The issue I am wishing to bring up with this topic is one that I want feedback from you all on. When I first joined the server, I was immediately "greeted" with foul-mouthed players who weren't exactly friendly when playing. They were competitive, funny as hell, and very interactive. They were never out of line, but were definitely competitive, edgy, and fun. Many of the players and admins back then were Brits. Once you proved yourself they were very nice and chatty. I love the English-men, but let's face it many of them tend to have foul mouths. But they were never over-disrespectful. Just edgy and competitive. It made for a hilarious gaming atmosphere. Trash talk is apart of gaming. It's not some love-fest with cat "meows" filling the voice chat constantly.

Which brings me to my point; now-a-days I've seen a dramtic shift in the atmosphere of the server. It seems as if the rules have been stretched so far, thin, and almost oppressive that I have to watch every word I might say. I'm not filing a report by saying this because it's not even worth it (and not to pick on Aya) but the other day I listened to "meow" noises in the voice chat for about 3 minutes straight. So I get on ym mic (which is very rare) and say "whoever keeps doing all the cat noises, how about we cut that stuff out?" Not even one curse word. I simply was asking for the garbage to stop. A request. And I got muted for disrespect. Upon being unmuted briefly after, I questioned Aya on why I got muted and just unjustified it was. Regardless of that situation, people are constantly being threatened and yelled at to not say "shutup" or anything relatively negative. And this isn't necessarily having to do with Aya anymore, I'm speaking in general. Some admins are more leniant like the old days but some are ridiculously oppressive almost.

Here's my thing, I'm all for STRICTLY preventing threats, harrassment, spam, and seriously harmful behavior in the server.. but Jesus Christ it's an online video game not a fucking daycare. If you can't take some minor negative talk, or a little bit of competitive trash talk, then get off the game. And re-evaluate why you are so easily offended by people you will never know or meet.

My whole point in making this thread is to get you all's reactions. Most (around 75%) of the people I see posting weren't around during the time period I'm referring to in the beginning of my post, so I hope I explained it well. I simply just don't think the atmosphere is as fun as it used to be. It might because I'm 21 years old and not 14 (like many of the current players) but I just think it's all getting a little ridiculous.

Oh and btw as an admin I try to keep players(including me) away from people seem might cause the dramas.
That's what I did.
I can say you could be a person who is making server atmosphere bad sometimes.

And yea I'm not native english speaker and I might take ppl's word deeply sometimes,I admit that.

Most people doesn't give a shit about how you speak to other people, as long as both parts are in on it. I'm in on it, and i call you all sort of shitty things too (however, i've had to cut down on it after the new rule. allthough it's just an inside joke, admins asked me to stop) You can't just randomly start trolling or cursing at someone you've never met/talked with, that's just disrespectful.

Easy awesomedude. Just calm down for a sec. I posted this thread to start a discussion. I tried addressing multiple conversation points right off the bat to prevent confusion and a bunch of replies asking for clarification. This is a forum where discussion takes place, you don't feel like reading a bunch? Then click the goddamn back button and read something shorter. You are right concerning our ""inside jokes" however, if it wasn't an inside joke, and I genuinely thought you were an asshole, dickhole cumdumpster whatever, I should be able to say it. As long as I'm not spamming and threatening you. That is JUST MY OPINION. If you can't handle it, like I said, you really need to re-evaluate your life. It is the INTERNET. NOT REAL LIFE. I realize you don't speak the language natively but English and all of its non-sensical idioms are very hard to understand for those who speak other languages and you seem to do very well with it. Other matters now, I definitely realize what objective you were trying to accomplish by making the server drama-free. But in my opinion, the server is not a hang-out spot. Hang-outs are friend's homes, movie theaters, bars, arcades, sporting events, not a virtual game. It's a game. Also, my whole point was that it is not an admins job to keep the server drama-free, and muting someone for asking for the cat noises to stop clearly oversteps the bounds of what an admin is supposed to do.

I DO indeed have the option to mute individuals, but does that mean I'm not allowed to ask for it to stop anyway? Hell no it doesn't. It was three people making the annoying cat noises, what are we 8 years old? I asked you all to stop, if you all say no, I go private mute you for myself, if others agree it's annoying it should stop. That's how muting goes. You don't mute someone just for asking you to stop something.

I'm perfectly fine with her, we just have a disagreement, and I'd like to know what others think.

I tell you a little about myself. I'm 100% Japanese who is been here for 28years who started to learn English when I was 3yers old. I have american husband but that doesnt make me understand all you native guys speak especially the nuance part.

I have my real life here also but I need online life too since living in Japan is so boring.

Wanna know MY opinion on the 'old times'? Back when half the DM servers in the game didn't use shit plugins like gameME or spawnprotect.

I'm going to have a talk with all the admins today. But just to start it off, it seems like the lastest rule that was added, respect admins and players, is getting out of hand. If all the admins can't enforce that to a reasonable degree, then the rules will be changed. Most likely changed to "if you can't take verbal abuse, then leave!". So, I suggest the admins are on today so I can share my thoughts about all these recent reports and problems.
