GTX550 ti getting damn hot
Hi.
I recently build a new computer and since I've been mildly overclocking my CPU, I've kept an eye on temperatures. While doing this, I quickly noticed that my GPU was reaching insanely high temperatures (or at least i assume it's high). After starting my computer up, I opened CPUID HWmonitor, which i use for measuring temperatures, i then joined the deathrun server and played for roughly 3 minutes. At that point my gpu had gotten up to 93 degrees celsius or 200 degrees fahrenheit.
Here's my build:
Asus GTX550 ti
i5 2500 @4.0 with the vantage A.L.C water cooling
8 gb corsair vengeance ddr3 @1600
600 watt psu (can't get more info than that right now, i will if it's necessary)
Asus maximus IV gene-z/gen3
1 tb harddisk (however later this week i'll be adding my very first ssd to it )
1 blu-ray drive and one "normal" drive
one fancontroller
two intake fans and two exhaust fans (excluding the psu fan)
It's all in a NZXT h2 and the wiring inside it is shit. That's why i mentioned everything, so you guys can figure out that there's a damn lot of wires running around. I have 4 temperature sensors inside it and they don't really get higher than 35 degrees celsius max, usually around 31-33, except for the one i placed on my gpu, which reads 48.6 right now.
HWmonitor is reading roughly 90 degrees (maxed out at 96), but quickly drops to a semi-stable 60 degrees when i minimize hl2.
My CPU is stable around 36-37 degrees celsius, maxed out at 41.
I usually play with all graphics on high and 8x AA, but reducing this doesn't have any effect on the temperature.
I don't even know if these temperatures are that bad, but from what google tells me they are way too high.
I still have loads to learn about computers, so any help or advice will be appreciated and just let me know if you need some more details (some of you probably wants some more info on the psu, i'll get that later today).
Thanks in advance

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
Did you check the temperature by touching it? (Sorry if you mentioned it, I didn't read the whole text). Some sensors might be broken.

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
I didn't try that but i have multiple sensors telling me it's getting really hot. They seem to work since they increase and decrease a long with me playing and minimizing games. I forgot to mention that I've also got some lighting in my case, which adds even more wires, however I don't think it's entirely because of bad ventilation it gets so hot, but it might be contributing to the problem. Maybe i'll rearrange everything in it next weekend. Or when i install the ssd.Stefan wrote:Did you check the temperature by touching it? (Sorry if you mentioned it, I didn't read the whole text). Well, I also have multiple sensors saying my CPU is pretty hot, but they're all wrong, except for one.

Can't you increase the fan speed ?

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
Yes, in theory i could do that, but i would rather avoid doing it since it gets pretty loudThomasBonjj wrote:Can't you increase the fan speed ?
It's set to thermal adjust or whatever it's called, so it regulates the fan speed automatically. It still shouldn't get that hot though. @Stefan, I'll try opening my case and feel if it's hot later

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
I don't prefer overclocking anyways, also I don't understand why you did it.
Looking your computer, it can handle HL2DM with easy. Right ?

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
@Thomas, I only mildly overclocked my cpu to 4 ghz, I didn't do anything to the gpu. And yes, it runs hl2dm like a dream
@Seba, indeed it is and I'll probably try running it with max rpm for a good 30 minutes while measuring the temperature

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
Talked with a professional yesterday (wasn't good news), removed dust and tested it afterwards today. Still 96 degrees celsius or 205 degrees fahrenheit. Even tried gently touching/feeling around the card, confirmed that it's hot. lol.
Made a decision after searching a bit, ordering the gainward geforce gtx 570 phantom tomorrow
Thanks for the help, lock topic please

Re: GTX550 ti getting damn hot
durr, I can't play any games D: Everything is lagging for me on my laptop after I changed the fan. If I want to play minecraft or any other games, I can't be on steam or have web browser open. My laptop will get overheated once I do anything in any games :/ Well, never buy anything from HP, atleast not a pavillion laptop like I did. D;
