How did you begin to play HL2DM?

For myself it followed with CS:S
and a day me and my cousin got bored and joined a HL2DM RP server

I needed an ATI driver update for my laptop, and on the homepage of ATI.com it said "Free game for ATI users". I was like "lol FREE, must be shit". Who knew it would turn into this... Never heard of Steam or anything Gaben-related before that.

I wanted to play the Mafia 2 demo so I got Steam and a friend of mine already had Steam and played a lot so he sent me the link to get HL2DM.

2 friends were talking about this awesome game where you can throw sawblades at zombies and tear em apart.

So i started playing hl2 and it was awesome.
later i played css, but i was raped so hard...
so i left css and started playing coop at hl2dm, met gottz, was dragged to sapphs cheat server where he showed me how to spawn blastdoors, ignite and recolor people... I WAS A FUCKING PRO SCRIPTER

I was able to ignite someone!!! AWWWWEEESOOOMMEEE
Thats how i started scripting, back then, everything was new, every new tested entity was a great invention. Good old times...

i played cs 1.6 and found a mod called go-mod (goldsrc Gmod). I couldnt use some graphics additions so i decided to update drivers. Nvidia offered me Portal demo. I found out that i got HL2dm too. I started at Dm then at Coop but then i found out C&B wich made me stay :]

My friend showed me that all nvidia users got hl2dm for free and i was yay free games (i was too young to know anything about cracks or so)

I found it cause I had about 100 dollars to spend on games when I first got steam, so I got Half life and a few other games (should've gotten the valve package)

If it wasn't for Ant's laptop having an ati card, I would have never played steam, scripted, or even have gotten a laptop with an ati card. I was in 9th grade when I first learned HTML in some web class I took when ant had his laptop. Crazy how his laptop had made us join steam and script.

I got two games for my birthday, one was portal and another was fate. My friend suggested I play portal first so I went ahead and did that. Then as always I started experimenting with cheats and stuff and started playing with hl2 npcs and weps. [Gotta love shooting turrets with magnum.] So later I got the hl2 episode pack and hl2dm came with it. How I started scripting is a story for another day.

Found a game I could get for free, and it looked cool so I got it.
Now I'm here... Don't know what I'd be doing if I didn't find this game,
but it wouldn't be as fun or cool
